Candlewick Productions is thrilled to announce their fall Kenmor Classic Players’ stage presentation of “Twelve Angry Men”, the classic literature piece by playwright Reginald Rose.

The play relates the story of a jury sequestered for a murder trial in the mid 1950’s.  Originally released as a movie in 1957,  it was critically acclaimed and nominated for several Academy Awards.

Producer Richard Klassen is thrilled to be staging this show in the Kenmor Theatre in Morden this fall.  When asked what he was most looking forward to in producing the piece, Klassen answered “the fantastic actors which have gathered as well as the dynamic nature of the play together promise to make for a great experience.” Klassen also added that this particular play has been on his “bucket list” for many years. “Often we didn’t do it because of the number of actors required…so it’s great to see all these guys get together in this way”

Cast selection took place in September, and the players have been attending rehearsals since the beginning of October.  Staying true to the original movie, the cast is composed solely of  male actors, as the setting of New York did not allow women on federal juries until 1968.  The audience will witness the jurors deliberating the guilt or innocence of a 19 year old defendant.  And as the discussion continues, emotions and tempers flare, and the personalities of each juror are put on display not only to the audience, but to each other as well.

Chuck Fefchak and Eric Buhr co-direct the play, as well as play a role as one of the jurors.  When asked about the show, Fefchak said “This has been a project I’ve wanted to do for years, and with this cast, it’s going to be amazing.  I’m very excited to be a part of a show on that really makes audiences sit up and take notice”

Eric Buhr is no stranger to the stage in this area, having taken part in many shows over the past 10 years, but this is his first time in a directorial capacity. When asked of this new challenge, Buhr said, “The greatest challenge will be figuring how to move these actors on stage within the dynamics of the play”.  He added, ” I’m looking forward to working with an exceptional cast, bringing these deep characters to life”. The show is a dramatical masterpiece, somewhat different than the classic comedies for which Candlewick has become known.  The plot and the theme of the show promise to make audiences feel the tension in the proceedings, and appreciate the individual opinions portrayed by the jurors. As the deliberations come to a climax , one will certainly realize that this play has been aptly titled.  The production opens in Morden at the Kenmor Theatre with evening shows on December 8 and 9, with a finale matinee on Sunday, December 10.
